Council Needs Your Input on Activating a Healthier Community

Townsville City Council would like to better understand how the community uses our parks and open spaces for physical activity, and where more activation could take place. They are inviting residents to provide feedback on their current activity level, challenges to being more physically active and opportunities for Council to consider that will encourage a healthier community.

Complete the survey for your chance to win one of three $100 INTERSPORT vouchers!
Survey closes 5pm, Monday 14th November.

About the Project

According to the World Health Organisation’s (WHO) Global Action Plan on Physical Activity 2018-2030, much of the world is becoming less active. In fact, as countries develop economically, levels of inactivity increase. This is partly due to changing transport patterns, increased use of technology, cultural values and urbanisation.

Townsville itself has one of the highest overweight and obesity statistics in Queensland (71.6% according to the Progress in Australian Regions Yearbook 2019) and research has proven that a combination of healthy eating and physical activity can reduce these levels.

Activating a Healthier Community aims to provide social opportunities in the form of Get Active Parks activations to encourage and empower residents to live a more active and healthier lifestyle and utilise the parks and open spaces that are on their doorstep.

Have Your Say

Council invites residents to participate in a survey to help gather information to assist in identifying challenges to participating in physical activity in the Townsville LGA, as well as identify local parks to host future activations. Participants may also choose to enter the draw for a chance to win 1 of 3 x $100 Intersport vouchers (Terms and Conditions apply).

Consultation will be open from Monday 17 October through until Monday 14 November 2022 by completing the short survey found below.

There is an additional Interactive Map tool found below where participants can drop a pin and comment on parks of interest throughout the region - alternatively you can access the Places tool here.
