In a historic agreement between the clubs and Townsville Junior Touch Football, the nightly game fee of $2 per player ($1 for players in the 7's and 8's competitions) will be removed from TJT-run competitions, in favour of an increased team nomination fee.
For the upcoming winter (mixed) season of junior touch football, clubs will pay a nomination fee of $450 per team.
Clubs already determine their own player registration fees, and will take the recent decision into account when advising the costs for this coming season. While players (and parents) will notice a small increase to their club registration fees, the change still leaves touch football as the cheapest team sport in the Townsville area.
The decision to remove game fees from the competition came after feedback provided by Sharks Touch Club members, who piloted it in 2018 at the request of the Sharks committee. Feedback was extremely positive from all parties, with no objections to the slight increase of fees noted.
As an added benefit to the removal of the game fees, players who are entitled to receive the QLD Government's 'Get Started' vouchers can now use the voucher to easily pay for all costs (with the exception of uniforms/equipment) associated with playing touch football. Previously, individual agreements per-player were required between TJT and the club to incorporate game fees into player registration fees.
The TJT Management Committee will review the team nomination fee prior to the commencement of the second season (summer) in August, and communicate directly with clubs regarding any adjustments if required.
