To address the issue, the Townsville Touch Referees Association is implementing a tougher stance on dealing with negative behaviour towards referees. Hall emphasises that the association will not tolerate any form of abuse, disrespect, or intimidation directed towards referees. The new measures include immediate penalties for the first offence without an in-game warning being issued, aiming to send a clear message that such behaviour will not be tolerated.
The open letter serves as a rallying cry for change, encouraging all members of the Townsville Touch Football community to reflect on their actions and support referees in their role. Hall emphasises the importance of fostering a positive environment that celebrates fair play, teamwork, and camaraderie.
The new guidelines, backed by Townsville Touch Football, were released to all referees on Thursday 15 June 2023 come into immediate effect for all TTF competitions.
