‘Selfless act’: Son of Cowboys rugby league legend Matty Bowen praised for sportsmanship

The son of a former North Queensland Cowboys legend has been singled out for ‘an extraordinary act of sportsmanship’ in a key touch footy match — and his dad couldn’t be more proud.

Townsville Touch Football praised the “remarkable integrity” of Mathew Bowen junior, affectionately known as MJ, during a crucial semi-final in an U12s game at the Junior State Cup North in Townsville from Friday to Sunday.

“In a thrilling semi-final match, Townsville Saints player Mathew Bowen junior displayed an extraordinary act of sportsmanship that exemplified the values of the Townsville Saints,” a social media post read.
